The Clan of the Cave Bear is book 1 of Earth’s Children. The author of this chapter is Jean Marie Auel. She author had done quite a brilliant work in the entire series with many riveting chapters. A few other exciting prehistoric fictional books from the author are The Land of Painted Caves and The Shelters of Stone.
Sandra Burr got the opportunity to narrate this novel. This wasn’t one of her best performances. The main issue was her change in pitch in almost every chapter of this novel, while the sound was not much clear either. The nasal tone in some parts was also a distraction for the listeners.
The novel is a very touching saga about people, love, and relationships. The author takes the listeners back to the time of modern humans where a girl named Ayla sweeps the harsh but beautiful Ice Age world. It is the world that they shared with those who are known as the Clan of the Cave Bear.
A natural disaster occurred that left Ayla wandering alone in a dangerous and unfamiliar world until she is discovered by a woman from the Clan. The people from the Clan were quite different from her very own kind. To them, the blue-eyed girl looks quite weird and ugly. She is one of those who have come to their ancient homeland. However, Iza was in no position to leave Ayla to die and to take her with them.
The novel is great with some really interesting writing from the author and characters were fabulous too. However, the narration was a bit compromised with nasal tone and varying pitch, which was a bit of a distraction.
